Aug 16th 2006 23:30 Report Abuse | | You should ask Chand about the co-op Telhado, he is the local expert on that particular subject!
Although he seems to have been missing from here of late, perhaps he has gone the same route as Dogsbodys raisins etc? |

Aug 17th 2006 09:49 Report Abuse | | Thanks WUE. I was a regular customer of the co-op. I especially miss that take it or leave it attitude that some of the staff have, do you know if Vicky Pollard still works there. Maybe the visitor centre should recommend tourists to visit the co-op for an experience that can be found in only a few places around the world. |

Aug 17th 2006 19:02 Report Abuse | | I've always liked the Co-op and have never met anyone remotely like Vicky Pollard. Virtually all current staff are friendly, polite and helpful. The other morning I was looking forlornly at the space where one of my favourite items is normally stocked. As I walked towards the checkout to pay, an assistant came up to me totally unprompted with the missing item and said, "is this what you're looking for?" An example of outstanding service - you don't get that in Tescos or Sainsburys or Waitrose or Asda or whatever the other one's called now, the one with the yellow and black sign.
Yes, I was disappointed about the 2 for 1 shandy offer finishing so quickly, but forgive and forget I say. I would recommend this shop to anyone who needs to do a basic quality food shop and can't face the misery and chronic depression that Yate offers. It's also nice to know you are not lining the pockets of some mega-rich, mega-greedy capitalist bullies.
I'll get off my nice shiny hobby horse now. |

Aug 19th 2006 19:08 Report Abuse | | Well they don't call Yate the "single parent capital of the West Country" for nothing.
Although I do find Co-op own brand stuff a bit, well, errm, cack. Sainsbury's is good for food shopping though, their own brand stuff is pretty decent.
Chand - you're probably thinking Morrisons? The Northern supermarket chain who took over Safeway... I remember shopping at Morrisons when I lived up north a few years back, and that was about the only thing I missed about moving back to Wotton. But now there's one at Cribbs, so that's ok.
Also they were the only supermarket that sold the large bottles of Crusha milkshake syrup at the time. Course nowadays I get that stuff in Makro (and drink it neat, along with Ribena), yay! |

Jul 20th 2012 06:37 Report Abuse | | Yay, we're getting a new Co-op. Co-op bank that is.

I love the Co-operative movement very much. I hate banks very much. So just thinking about the Co-op Bank causes my head to spontaneously combust. |
