A place where things not fitting above and not directly involving Wotton or humourous, offbeat, "New Year Resolutions" and things that wouldn't be out of place in a chatroom.

Jul 15th 2004 18:54 Report Abuse | | I bet Auntie Marion could tell you a tale or two about me in me younger days Bee! I was like many young 'uns then, a bit of a rebel rouser, drinkin' smokin' and wimminising! Now I be a little older and wiser, teetotal and a non smoker. I do spend a bit, now and then, unlike our mutual friend GRB! He knows that I'm only funning!! Anymore memories would be welcome. BFN. |

Jul 1st 2012 13:58 Report Abuse | | Dear Bee and Bat
This is the first time i have written on this forum and thought i would write as the gentleman you refer to, Clifford Shipton was indeed my father and aunt Marion was my aunt and the lady you refer to that lived in Cotswold gardens was my aunt Billie and uncle Jim they kept racing pigeons as I remember. When we visited as children we would often take some pigeons back to Bristol to let fly off to return back to Wotton. Sadly my father passed away in 1999 and is still missed greatly. D

Unfortunately BAT died a couple of years ago: [external link]
Bee used to be a regular on here, but now only pays us a very occasional visit. You and Bee are related then, aren't you? |

Jul 9th 2012 13:00 Report Abuse | | Pigeons were a huge part of my life as a Synwell girl. Dad kept them for 60+ years both in Oatground and West View. In WW2 he was in the Pigeon Corps, Royal Corps of Signals near Southend, Essex. The lofts were there on the coast to receive the birds with their messages from Europe. I was the resident 'vet' at home!! Lolly sticks made good splints for broken legs and I can remember pigeons listing to starboard when landing on the loft roof. Frequent visitors were Fawdy Pearce and Jim Griffiths. Both lived in Cotswold gardens and were also 'fanciers'. When I had a car I was sent off on a trip to release the birds at an appointed time then back home to Dad to work out their speed Someone else on this site had a 'fancier' connection too!! |
