I was listening to Radio 5Live earlier today, the usual nonsense where listeners are asked to contact the programme on some matter or other. This particular section was about rules/laws you would like to see brought in, and they read out a text from 'Eddie in Wotton-under-Edge' who said a new commandment should be "Thou shalt not park on double yellow lines when going to church".

Fair play to Eddie for getting Wotton on the radio; however, of all the many traffic problems in WuE, I'm not sure that this issue is one of them, is it?

God made them park there, so it's okay.

In fact, if God created us, everything is all ultimately his fault, even the bad things we do.

But back to your point. No, Old Town is clearly our number 1 problem. I think it should be made into a dual carriageway. What do you think?

I can't argue with any of that. Well I could, but I won't.

I particularly agree with your Old Town dual carriageway idea. I'd also include a hard shoulder for both sides, with a service station just outside no.13, and a multi-level intersection at the war memorial not unlike the one below. It could be just the solution we need for those tricky rush hour hold-ups.

We may have to knock down a few buildings, though.

I get really quite annoyed when people try to cross the road on the junction of High Street and Bear Street, just a few tiny feet from the zebral crossing. I glare at them as if this will make them see the massive error of their ways in not taking three strides to their right and crossing the road safely and correctly.

Am I wrong to get cross and glare?

No, you are not wrong to get cross and glare. You are perfectly within your rights. I would, however, stop short of winding down the window and shouting at them. I once did that at a cyclist on the A46 in Woodchester who seemed to be oblivious that there was a cycle path just the other side of the wall, but he ignored me. It's not nice being ignored.
