I was born and bred in Wotton and lived there until I got married in 1965. I have a lot of memories of the town. I can remember Miss Morley who had a hardware shop in market St, Charlie Tavender who sharpend tools and knives Mrs Dillimore had a sweet shop next door and several more shops in the town. Portlocks the grocer where my Mum used to shop. Sometime on a Sunday after Sunday School Mum and Dad would take me for a walk along coombe to Gastons Brook and back along Potters Pond hopeing to get some sweets from the shop on the corner next to Howard Manns where also shopped for fruit and Veg. If anyone remembers my Mum Elsie Savory she used to cook dinners at the school kitchens and Dad worked for G.P,O. Iwould be very interested.I read your messageing board most night Keep up the good work.

Welcome to the forum Anne. There are quite a few of us old Wottonians who have moved away but are able to stay in touch through this forum. Despite the nicknames a few of us know one another and have either been at school or have worked with other people on this site.

My aunt and uncle worked behind the counter at Wotton Post Office in the late fifties early sixties and my dad taught at Bear Street School.

If you look at the wotton photo gallery you may even see a few familiar faces.

Hi Anne. Is your family related to Len Savory? He used to play the Bass Drum for Wotton Silver Band when I was a kid.skeptic

My Granny used to live in Oddington and my Dad used to visit her quite a lot. In a box of slides he took in the 70s, I would say, I found a photo showing the Bell Hotel & F.J. Grimes Hardware store in Wotton-Under-Edge. I found a reference to this store on this forum. How do I upload the photo?
