If any one wants to go underground, dank recess and crumbling walls so dangerous for the unwary. If you are not sure and would like a taste to see if you would fancy it then respond to this. Oh it isn't very far.

Greetings Happy. Thanks for the invite; please can you check your membership list, as I think I already belong to this club. A couple of times a day I descend and then emerge shaken and bruised.

Seriously though, what is it about Old Town that results in such frequent and enormous potholes? Wasn't it completely resurfaced just a year or so ago? Are they treating the symptom rather than the cause?

First world problems, some might say, and of course we're lucky to have roads that are generally well maintained, but even so, it's not very good. And as I think I said last time, it's not very safe for cyclists in what is a tricky stretch of road at the best of times.

Thanks Chandrasekar, I totally agree but have you noticed how instant patching happens just before the cycling event happens.
Looks like road repairs will be taken back into the bosom of the county thanks to the Lib Dems, Amey the present contractors are totally and utterly rubbish.
Sooner or later there is going to be a accident because drivers are having to concentrate on avoiding the potholes so much.

Another serious reply grin

I think the reason Old Town gets in such a bad state is that traffic going
in both directions uses the same side of the road, and is probably the
most used stretch of road in Wotton, especially by heavy vehicles.

Just needs ripping up and starting again. Patching (badly) will only last
a few months with that level of traffic.

Getting very bad. I thought it was a western extension to the Crossrail project. I've reported it to County Highways via those website. Suggest that others do and hopefully they're get the message. The state of WUEs roads is shocking.

Totally agree with you Occidental Outlook....there are many other areas just as bad as Old Town and it is a disgrace.

Go over to Wales and the roads are so much better than this side of the bridge.

Yes, the big problem with Old Town is it's the only way to get from the west of Wotton to the east without going out of the town. And yet, the right-of-way is for the those heading east to west.

Maybe Wotton needs a new car park?

Yes Wotton sure does need a car park but not much use given the distance away from Old Town where the nearest car park could be.

Wotton may need a new car park, but let's make sure that what we've got is fit for purpose first. The current car parks are very poorly signed. Long Street has very poor marking of its current parking bays. The co-op car park should be better marked and signed. Also has consideration been given to asking the Royal Oak if their car park could be used - especially during the evening?
Once that has been sorted, then let's look to see if we need a new one. Just a thought.

Well, this raised green area outside Renishaw could be leveled and turned into parking spaces:
