A place where things not fitting above and not directly involving Wotton or humourous, offbeat, "New Year Resolutions" and things that wouldn't be out of place in a chatroom.

Whilst on honeymoon in st Ives one afternoon we were walking back to our guesthouse the Kandahar, which is on the harbour At the time there was quite a few people about suddenly this man "hopped" over the harbour wall and walked past us back towards the town. He was around 20 or so he was wearing black jacket and black trous, ers but what seemed odd was that he had old fashioned buckles on his shoes.
I looked at Anna and we both turned around to look at him but we could not see him in the crowd.
I went to look over the harbour wall to see where he came from thinking there must be steps or a ladder but the was nothing but a 4 meter drop to the sea.
and no we had not been drinking lol.

I shouldn't worry Wolfie, probably some old "salt" from yes'ter-year
on his way home from a days toil fishing, or perhaps a mariner on his way home after a long voyage!! Down here in Devon they say that spirits
are more inclined to show themselves near the sea. Spirits that have been involved with marine & seafaring history are far more in evidence
to those of us who are receptive to this sort of phenomenon. Don' be
alarmed he was just wanting to announce himself, you were the lucky ones!!!

I agree "Bee". I've spent many a fortnight camping on "Ayr Holiday Park". It's just below the rugby club looking down over Porthminster beach. Drinking in the "Sloop" and the "Lifeboat" ale houses. I can smell the sea now... Those were the days... A guy that used to manage the Falcon in Wotton ran a Bar/Nightclub in St. Ives about 12 months ago. Don't think it would be quite the same going down now as a 38 year old as to being 19 somehow!

Yeah - some of the nightclubs here in Gloucester would consider you too young! But that usually goes for the women...

Me and my daughter go every year for a long weekend to spend some quality time together - which usually means me sitting on the beach reading a book, and her making friends with all the kids. We always have a great time because she would be on the beach all day, every day if I let her. We do usually venture out to Flambards as well but that's got quite grotty in recent years.

Anyway, not wishing to hijack Wolfie's thread - I had a very strange experience only the other night driving from Nailsworth to Gloucester. It was about half past ten. I was going through Stroud, past the Stroud and Swindon building, approaching the mini roundabout when I noticed a little moped coming in the opposite direction.

Now, you know when you see something coming towards you from through your windscreen, and then the thing travels momentarily into your 'blind spot' which is where your windscreen meets the adjoining metal between windscreen and side window... well this moped did exactly that - disappeared into my blindspot.. and I turned my head to watch it in my side window, as I was approaching the mini roundabout - only it didn't reappear.

It vanished.

Yes I was tired. But I'm pretty sure that's what happened. One minute it was there, the next it was gone. Spooky, huh!?!?!?

Yeah Bee, re- the moped that disappeared, my Dad and I had a strange experience in about 1964, it must of been about then because I remember the family car was a red Austin A40 Farina. We were coming down Rush-Mire Hill, coming round the right hand bend by the old quarry as we straightend up I saw or thought I saw an old silver Jaguar coming up the straight out of Wotton, when we got to the next left bend before you get on to the same straight, we went round the bend- nosign of the Jag!! I then knew my Dad had seen it to because he said "thats queer"!! He asked me if he had been seeing things. I said that I had seen It to!!. He stopped the car and we got out and looked over the bank that drops away to Coombe----- NOTHING!! WE talked about that one for years. My Dad died last year, Wolfies thread has provoked the memory of that strange morning in 64!
