TIme for some feedback. If you've got a few minutes spare, please let me know what you think.

What facility is missing that would make this a really great site?

What facilties are here but you're not using them? Why?

How would you improve any of the existing facilities?

Thanks!

1. A "take Natalie Imbruglia Out To Lunch" facility
2. I use them all and am very happy.
3. The existing facilities are spot on thank you Andrew. (Apart from #1)

A date when classifed are entered would be useful - never know if they are recent or old

I've looked at other local community websites, and this is right up there with the very best. It's so clear, easy to navigate and informative. I've said this before, but as a town we are very fortunate to have such a good facility with an accommodating liberal webmaster who exercises very little control over contributors (I was surprised you didn't delete that insult about the dog earlier Andrew, until I realise that you had submitted it!).

I'm afraid I only use the discussion board and the gallery, very occasionally the links. I sometimes wonder if the site is being found by everybody it should be - it doesn't seem to be used that much as a community resource like, for example, www.nailsworth.com - is there anything to be learned (or imitated) from that site?

I think it is telling that only four or five Wotton residents contribute regularly to the discussion board, while the majority live well away from the town. I still wonder if people are afraid that they will not be guaranteed anonymity (or however it is spelt) and won't be able to say what they want without their real identity being 'discovered'.

Out of interest, none of my business, but why do you ask Andrew? Just a quiet Friday afternoon, good customer service, wanting to feel loved, or do you feel the site is not attracting enough business for you? Actually that's a really nosey question - just ignore it.

A web counter might be interesting, so we can all se how many people are visiting, and those of us obsessive about statistics can watch it every day and see how much it goes up by!

Sorry, not really answered the questions.

Answers:

* Can't really think of any - it's already a really great site
* Have answered that one

Don't mind answering your question: "why do I ask?"

Mainly because this site is a feather in my cap, I want to make sure it doesn't look bedraggled next to my other feathers (if that metaphor can be extended at all).

I'm also a hacker (not an illegal activity type "cracker", but a "hacker" as in programmer without a cause) so I like to extend, tinker and improve my existing code base. Some of the code from this site has gone into my commercial projects so it's almost like a testing ground.

I didn't expect compliments as I wasn't fishing for them, but they are gratefully received all the same. Thanks. I'm really after honest answers like Pat's, so I can fix any niggles or inconveniences.

Perhaps we should all go for a journey over the ridge and down to www.nailsworth.com, and each bring back something to share.

I'll start us off. Hmmm, the news section looks good "... was last updated with local news on 16th November 2003". I could create one of those dated May 2006 and we can watch it grow old together! smile

Cheers
Andrew

Oh, I wasn't necessarily saying nailsworth.com was any good! I just know it is a very popular site, as evidenced by the web counter and the discussion board, and it seems to have a lot of links, features, etc. I've not explored any of them, and if they are out of date, well that's poor, and I know we wouldn't get that on w-u-e.org! The fact that it is popular may purely be down to successful marketing within the nailsworth community.

Hi Andrew, nice to see you on here.

How about a spell checker, thats something I would use all the time.

A list of all members (their screen names not actual names) that use the site (just for me to be nosey).

Cant think of anything else at the mo, will check out nailsworth etc

Oh, here's another one. How about the facility to make the "please enter your message here" box on the discussion board (the one I am typing in at this very moment) in larger font, to make it easier to see (and maybe in some way to comply with the Disability Discrimation Act?) Might mean less silly typos caused by not being able to see the text ploperly.

Or indeed the option of larger font throughout the discussion board for DDA purposes... I like it, but it is quite small.
