Thornbury Area Music Centre 2013/2014
The Junior Music centre for children aged 4 to 7 at Marlwood School is looking to increase the number of classes available.

Thornbury Area Music Trust – After a really fantastic first term, the Junior Music centre for children aged 4 to 7 at Marlwood School  is looking to increase the number of classes available.

Currently there are just under 50 children from 16 primary schools attending.   These groups are a perfect way to make new friends and also to start to understand music ahead of commencing music instrument lessons. The session start at 9.15am, last 45 minutes and the term will cover 9 weeks.  Please register your child’s details asap so that places can be found in beginner sessions. (free Old Down Country Park family pass for each child who joins). The new terms starts on 11th January 2014 and will cost £27 for 9 weeks.   Have a look on our facebook page to see photos of the groups.

Sponsored by John Lewis, Co-operative Community Fund and Old Down Country Park.

Foundation class : For reception aged children and involves singing, playing and exploring percussion instruments.   Music Makers class : For years 1 and 2 and follows on from the foundation class with the children developing their skills in singing, sound exploration, listening responses and performance skills with an emphasis on playing tuned percussion instruments.   Recorder class : For years 2 and 3 - this class provides an opportunity for the children to receive tuition on the recorder and to continue to develop their musical skills in other ways like singing and basic composition.

Thornbury Area Music Centre  (also at Marlwood School) will also be starting after the Christmas holidays on the 11th January 2014 (9.30) – for orchestral musicians aged from 7 to 18 – split into Intermediate (from only a few notes played to grade 2)  and Senior groups (from grade 3) (both groups having string ensembles, wind bands and orchestra).    This is the best value music centre around, with children coming from large areas of South Gloucestershire and also the southern parts of Gloucestershire.  The cost for 10 weeks is £45 with a discount for each additional sibling of £5.   Come along for a non obligatory session – you will not be disappointed.

South Cotswold Youth Orchestra - this ensemble of elite musicians, grade 5 upwards, study and perform larger-scale symphonic works, presenting a termly concert – the spring terms dates have not yet been set.

Thornbury Area Music Trust senior musicians go on bi-annual tours – with the 2014 tour going to Paris including 3 concerts and a trip to Disneyland Paris.
